Week 17: Holly Herndon

Everyone else is blogging about Holly Herndon, so I might as well give it a go.

I don’t blog enough about female musicians, and this one comes as a particular surprise. It’s a clinical, techno sound that reminds me a lot of the cut up style of Jackson and his Computerband. While a lot of electronic musicians can cut up and dice their samples, most of the time it ends up being a jumble of noises. Holly Herndon’s is different, you can hear how the songs develop and the styles change. In particular, there is another track on the album that sounds almost hymn-like although the electronic skeleton shows through.
