Daft Punk

Or is it too obsessive to see such a show more than once?

The Blood Brothers

Even before Truck was rained off, The Capitol Hill Block Party was going to be my festival substitute for this summer. It is an annual ‘block party’ taking place on three blocks off a street in the Capitol HIll area of Seattle. For $15 (about £7.50) it was a full day of music across three stages. Highlights of the day included Girl Talk (with a massive stage invasion – I don’t know how people were able to stand up there at all), watching Blood Brothers scream their heads off and watching the awesomely cute Matt & Kim.

Maximo Park

Strangely, Maximo Park have become quite a special band in my life. The first time I saw them (and I keep on going about it) was back at Truck 2004, when I randomly went to watch them because Republic of Loose (the other band on at the time) were a bit boring. I stayed for the rest of their set. This was around the time they signed to Warp.
Now, Paul no longer hides behind his book, and has become a fantastic frontman of a group, coping with banter and leaping around the stage. Of course the never ending touring keeps them a great live band to watch, and I’m not guilty to say that I’m still a fan after all these years.

My view of Sonic Youth

First: Truck – whoops! Glad I’m in sunny California.
Last night I went to see Sonic Youth at the Berkeley Community Theatre. The gig itself was a bit strange, as it was at an all seated venue. Although everyone stood up for the SY set, the seats made everyone so far apart that there was hardly any atmosphere. Stuck near the back of the downstairs part of the auditorium, I wished I could have wormed my way to the front to join the crazy kids at the front who were enjoying themselves.
