Outdressed

Posted by jill on April 19, 2007

I’m not the most fashionable person, anyone can tell you that. But tonight, at the Foals gig, I was really outdressed. If I was to plot a graph of the number of people with haircuts and dayglow outfits at each Oxford Foals gig, since the first one (this or this one depending on whether you can tell the first gig by name or style) it would look a bit like this:

I counted at least 4 people in a grey hoodie and black t-shirt. And also too many hoodies to mention.

I feel old.

La Blogotheque

Posted by jill on April 17, 2007

The videos up on La Blogotheque gives the impression that wherever you wander in Paris, you would bump into various bands on street corners, for example The Shins or Guillemots. Maybe even Herman Dune, singing at that launderette down the road, or The National round a table, and Arcade Fire stuck in a lift.

What I like about these shows is the way that the bands’ performances are taken out of a typical setting (on stage or in a studio), but instead intermingle with everyday life passing by. The completely acoustic nature of the shows means that the songs are often reworked too.

My favourite of all these videos must be Grizzly Bear performing in a tiny bathroom, followed by a gentle stroll performing a gorgeous version of Knife.
