Vote for Rich

Posted by jill on September 28, 2006

Ace photographer, and sometime A Scholar and A Physician member, Rich is through to the second round of the MyDreamApp competition, where, it seems, the winner will have their ideas converted to a working application. Rich’s idea is pretty great, a program which will convert any type of tapping/humming/whistling into a computer music file. If I had a mac I’d love to play with that program. To send him (and his idea) through to the next round, vote for him here (he is on it as Richard, Whistler’s the name of his program).

Carefree days

My rate of gig going right now might even beat 2002 (the year when I challenged myself to go to as many shows as possible). It’s getting rather silly now, and I really should just hide at home away from loud noises. But I need to find a new pasttime that doesn’t require loud noises or staring at screens… maybe Sports.

Anyway, back to this week.. it’s been a packed one.
Tuesday: Abort, Retry, Fail night.. good name for the night (though I didn’t stay around long enough to see if they would play a track off the White Town EP with the same name). The Walk Off really do need to be experienced while every one is drunk, though as an opening act it was good to see the effort they are still putting into their shows after all these years. Napoleon IIIrd was a fascinating show to watch, like some circus master controlling all his various instruments.

Thursday: The Epstein posed a challenge. They sound so much like The Eagles, but why are they still so good? It may be just that they have some amazingly great songs, and musicianship to back it up.

Friday: Friday Frigate to round off the summer of waterbased gigging. Musically, the most diverse yet, but as good fun as ever. Harry Angel playing while under a bridge was awesome, as was later in their set watching the moon sail by behind the band. The Keyboard Choir, playing for the first time since their recording trip in Ireland, sounded even better than before, can’t wait to get my hands on their recordings. Sow were so loud that even the swans were staying away from the boat.

I’ve spent this weekend working on a new way to post stuff on here (and a whole night making it work on internet explorer. bah!). So if you have any problems can you e-mail me and let me know?
