So, back from Truck

Posted by jill on July 26, 2006

The Best Ever (again… only through checking my old posts did I realise that this time last year I thought Truckeight was the best ever…). This year, the music wasn’t great, but the company was. (When I managed to find people) it was fun to hang out with people I only ever see once a year (ex-Nielsons, Matt Edible, the Brainlove crew), and chat to Truckers and the Oxford lot. The good things came in pairs.

I loved…

  1. The disco shed in the market field. The best idea of Truck ever (apart from starting the festival obviously). Saturday night, disco lights in the shed, and a crowd of 70-100ish people dancing round it. Fantastic
  2. The posh loos in the band camping area. They had wooden panel doors! Prints of paintings! Full lenght mirror! Running water and soap! It was almost like being at home

I felt proud watching…

  1. ¡Forward, Russia! – Thinking about how, since the last time I saw them back in October last year, they’ve just zoomed up the charts and stuff. Even though Katie Russia was injured, they were still ace and as friendly as ever
  2. The Keyboard Choir – Took that opening slot and wowed everyone with it. The robots was a great idea. I could only watch the first half of their set (I was supposed to be working), and it was difficult to tear myself away. And they brought Brian Eno (kind of…) to the festival!

No doubt in 12 months’ time I’ll be saying that Truck 10 (ten! eek!) will be the best ever…Band photos are now up on this site, and more general stuff is up on my flickr as usual.

Ace Weekend

Posted by jill on July 3, 2006

If I could, I’d like to rewind the last two days and just do it again. Saturday night was Polmo Polpo, only one of 3 UK shows this time round. If Ady gives up promoting shows, we’re going to miss out on this type of gigs :( Polmo Polpo was magnificent, especially the last half of the set which was a reworked version of Kiss Me Again and Again. The single version is amazing, but to see him use the same loops but building it up in a different way was really great.
Then on Sunday great bands, a boat, cheap Pimms, and sunny day. What else could I ask for. As well as photos of both gigs (see links to the right), there are non band photos over there on my flickr account (see bottom left).
